You know how people say time flies when you’re doing something you enjoy. But I am sure nobody has ever said this while they are at their jobs, everybody just longs for the weekends to arrive.
I on the other hand, had the privilege of working at Temple Adventures in Pondicherry, and boy did time fly!
I must admit that I am quite new to the world of working and being independent and handling all the responsibilities that come with it. This was only my second job, but it was the first I genuinely looked forward to.
It is a very different feeling to wake up and WANT to go to work, to be excited about your day, something I don’t think many can relate to and I am so grateful that I could.
Getting a job as a DiveMaster here just happened by chance, it wasn’t something I planned. I was in the process of applying for masters for the year 2020 and this was just something I thought I’d do to pass my time, little did I know I would end up finding a family too!
For the little time that I worked there, the TA team was pretty large, lot of trainees, employees and freelancers, and I can literally go on and on about how each of them managed to have a positive impact on my life but that would just take too long and I feel like this post has been cheesy enough.
It goes without saying that TA’s first priority has always been customer satisfaction and they live up to their status of being the only 5-star IDC centre in the country. What really stood out for me the most about them was how invested all employees and employers were in the training of their students, especially their DiveMaster trainees.
The DMTs at TA get the most gruelling, a very detail oriented training ever and, I must say the results are not disappointing. At the end of their training they turn out to be the most skilful and experienced DMs I have ever worked alongside with!
Being an environmentalist, I personally, have been quite disturbed by the way dive shops usually function, it is part of the tourism industry and it makes sense how making money would be their first priority and preserving the environment would come after, not at TA. Their dedication towards the environment is just heart warming. And it shows through their work at TRF- the conservation wing of TA, we have spoken about in our previous blog. The team of TA and TRF work together to bring about a more sustainable and ethical experience for all their customers. They do this by making sure that every pre-dive briefing includes some points about the marine ecology and the do’s and don’ts when underwater.
Pondicherry is the only place in this country with artificial reefs in their ocean, courtesy of TA and TRF who have done an excellent job with the reef that has an established ecosystem and has a residency of more than a 100 different species!
In one of our blog posts we spoke about the work TRF is involved with, and I learnt so much being a part of this team too! Being a DiveMaster at TA and also a part of TRF seemed quite difficult at first but I was always given enough time to work in both these zones, proving how the team respects the each other’s works and believes in balance.
It would be understatement to say that everyone at TA works really hard, I mean, working 6am to 6pm every day is no joke but regardless, any time you walk into the dive centre you will always be greeted with a warm smile!
So, dear Temple Adventures, I’m not sure if this a love letter to you or just a really good Google review but I just have to say I really cherished every moment I spent with you! So thank you and I look forward to when I can come join the team again!
